Scrawlcut. Draw it. Cut it to the song.

A video editor for hand-drawn reels that runs in your browser. Draw on layers, cut to the song, and every line boils.

Made in Scrawlcut

a note on my window 0:13
night drive 0:15
my heart goes boom 0:13

Three short reels: lyric cards with doodles, a night drive with scenery that scrolls, and cards cut on the beat.

They play without sound. Press Sound on one to hear it.

Each is a Scrawlcut project built from the editor's own pieces and exported by it. The songs and lyrics are made-up samples.

Every line boils

Each line is drawn three times, a little differently, and the drawings swap twelve times a second. That shimmer is line boil.

Drawings, pictures, video and every word of a title can boil or hold still on their own. Try it on the heading:

Words land when they're sung

Paste your lyrics and tap along with the space bar, let Scrawlcut guess from where the notes start, or let Hear and match listen to the song with Whisper, right in your browser.

Then nudge any word on the timeline.

Hear and match downloads its speech model the first time, 40 to 250 MB depending on the one you pick. The song itself never leaves your computer.

Reads and writes LRC, SRT, WebVTT and words.json. The lyric on this card is a made-up sample.

Draw like it's paper

A full-screen canvas with layers, seven brushes, pressure and tilt from a pen, symmetry, a snapping grid, and flipbook frames with onion skin.

It's laid out like the drawing apps you already know.

Not one for drawing? Drop in ready-made doodles, like hearts, stars, arrows and speech bubbles, and let titles do the lettering.

All of it is open during early access. After launch, Free keeps Pen, Marker, Crayon and Flat, 4 layers and 6 flipbook frames a doodle; Pro opens every brush and takes the limits off.

00:00:16:00Draw

Then cut it to the beat

A multi-track timeline with titles, 17 transitions, effects and filters, keyframes, beat detection, ducking and voiceover.

A layer you draw is a clip on the timeline, and a clip you place is a layer you can draw on.

After launch, Free keeps Fade, Cut, Slide and Zoom. All 17 transitions, chroma key, compound clips, the peak limiter and ducking come with Pro.

Your song stays home

Scrawlcut runs in your browser. Songs, drawings and projects are kept in this browser, on your computer, and nothing is uploaded.

Clearing the browser's data for this site clears them too. To keep a copy, or take a project to another computer, download it with its media as a .scrawlcut.zip.

Coming with Pro Annual and Early Supporter: private cloud sync for up to 10 projects. It's off until you turn it on for a project, and signing in alone uploads nothing.

What you see is what you post

The preview and the file come from the same renderer, so the boil you watch is the boil you post.

Export MP4, WebM (with a see-through background if you like), an animated GIF or PNG frames, or snap any single frame as a PNG.

Pick the size: a 9:16 reel at 1080 × 1920, square, 4:5, 16:9 or your own. Video runs at 12 to 60 frames a second.

A small hand-lettered scrawlcut mark sits in the bottom-left corner. During early access, turn it off in the project's Watermark settings.

After launch, Free exports MP4 at 720p or 1080p and 30 fps, with the mark. Pro takes the mark off and adds 4K, 60 fps, see-through WebM and GIF; a $1.49 Clean Export Pass takes it off one video.

Start to finish

One reel made in the editor, step by step: bring in a song, tap the lyrics in time, draw a heart on a scene, add a transition and an effect, then export.

Captions name each step as it happens.

Recorded in Scrawlcut at real speed; only the waits for loading and exporting are cut. The song and lyrics are made-up samples.

Good to know

Is it free?
Yes, the whole editor is free while Scrawlcut is in early access. After launch the Free plan stays free, with a small mark on what you export. The paid plans are under Pricing.
Which browser should I use?
Scrawlcut is built and tested in Chrome on a computer. Before each export it checks that your browser can make the video and its sound, and tells you if it can't.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
It opens on both, and a tablet pen's pressure and tilt work when you draw. A computer gives the timeline more room.
Can I turn off the watermark?
During early access, yes: a small scrawlcut mark sits in the bottom-left corner of what you export, and the project's Watermark settings switch it off. After launch, any paid plan takes it off.
Can I make money from my videos?
Yes, on every plan, Free included. What you make is yours to post and monetize; the songs and other people's work in it need their own rights.
Do I need an account?
Not to make videos. After launch you'll sign in only to buy a plan, so it comes with you to other computers.
Can I use any song?
Scrawlcut doesn't come with music rights. Use songs you're allowed to post, and check the music rules of wherever you post.
Will my projects keep working?
They stay in this browser, with a restore point about once a minute while you work. A downloaded .scrawlcut.zip opens again in Scrawlcut on another computer too. If a paid plan ends, nothing in your browser is deleted: every project there still opens and downloads.
